Islanders, Weight agree to 1-year deal (AP)
The New York Islanders have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with team captain Doug Weight. Weight and will be playing his 20th NHL season, and his third the Islanders. Last year, the 39-year-old center had one goal and 16 assists in 36 games before he missed the rest of the season with a shoulder injury that required surgery. [read full article]

Thrashers sign ex-Islanders D Meyer (AP)
Defenseman Freddy Meyer, who appeared in 64 games with the New York Islanders last season, has signed with the Atlanta Thrashers. The 29-year-old Meyer was an unrestricted free agent. He had four goals and 11 assists with the Islanders last season. He began his NHL career with Philadelphia in 2003 and set a career high with 27 points for the Flyers in the 2005-06 season.
